Last updated 17 August 2026 · YuSub for macOS
There is no YuSub server. The app talks to YouTube directly from your Mac; nothing passes through a machine we run. That is why we cannot see your subscriptions, the tags you make, or what you watched.
This page explains what the app does handle, and where it puts it.
What the app handles
When you sign in with Google, the app fetches the following from YouTube with your permission.
- Account details — your name and profile picture, used only to show who is signed in.
- Your subscriptions — channel names, descriptions, thumbnails, subscriber counts, video counts.
- Recent videos from those channels — titles, publication dates, thumbnails, durations, view counts.
The app requests two YouTube permissions. youtube.readonly reads your subscription list; youtube.force-ssl is used only when you unsubscribe from a channel inside the app. If you never use that, the second is never exercised.
Where it is kept
- This Mac — all of the above is stored on this Mac alone. The sign-in token lives in the macOS Keychain and is excluded from backups and from iCloud Keychain.
- Your iCloud — with YuSub Pro, the tags you made sync to your other Macs through your iCloud account. It travels through Apple's iCloud and we have no access to it. With the feature off, nothing leaves the device.
- Our servers — there are none. The app contains no analytics, no advertising SDK and no crash reporter.
How long it is kept
Data taken from YouTube — channel names, descriptions, thumbnails, video details — is refreshed or deleted within 30 days, as the YouTube API Services Terms require. The app does this on its own; there is nothing for you to do.
Statistics such as subscriber and view counts may be kept longer under the same terms, and the app checks every 30 days that your sign-in is still valid.
The tags you make are not YouTube's data, so they are kept indefinitely. A tag is linked only by channel ID, so when cached channel data is swept away your filing survives and reattaches on the next sync.
How to delete it
- In the app — Settings ▸ Data ▸ Delete All Data. This removes the local cache, your synced tags and the stored sign-in token.
- From your Google Account — revoke YuSub's access at any time in your Google Account permissions. Once revoked, the app can no longer fetch anything from YouTube.
- Delete the app — removing the app removes the local data with it. Tags synced to iCloud can be removed separately in iCloud settings.
Payment
Payment for YuSub Pro is handled by Apple. We neither receive nor see your payment method or billing details. The app only asks Apple whether the purchase exists.
Sharing, transferring and disclosing Google user data
YuSub does not share, transfer, or disclose Google user data to any third party. It is never sold or rented, and never handed over for advertising, analytics, profiling, or training AI models. We run no server, so there is no party on our side that receives this data and no copy of it for us to disclose or inspect.
Information leaves this Mac in exactly two ways, and neither of them routes through us.
- Google and YouTube — the origin services the app talks to directly in order to fetch what you asked for. The data travels from them to this Mac; it does not pass through us.
- Apple iCloud — with YuSub Pro, the tags you create and the channel and video identifiers they point at sync through your own iCloud account. YouTube content such as channel names, descriptions and thumbnails, and your account information such as email, name and profile picture, are not synced. The sync happens inside Apple's infrastructure and we have no access to it. Turn the feature off and nothing leaves the device.
We hold no Google user data, so there is nothing for us to produce in response to a legal request.
YuSub's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Because YuSub uses YouTube API Services, the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy also apply.
How the data is protected
The app relies on the following mechanisms to protect sensitive information.
- Encryption in transit — every exchange with Google, YouTube and Apple is encrypted with TLS (HTTPS). The app makes no unencrypted connections.
- Credential protection — OAuth access and refresh tokens are held in the macOS data-protection keychain. They are readable only after the device has been unlocked once, and are excluded from iCloud Keychain syncing so they never leave this Mac. Tokens are never written to logs or to exported files.
- Storage isolation — the cache and your tags live inside the App Sandbox container, which macOS keeps other applications out of. Keychain items sit in an access group belonging to this app alone.
- Minimal network surface — the app holds an outbound-only network entitlement. It accepts no incoming connections, so there is no route from the outside into the app on this Mac.
- No third-party code — no analytics, advertising SDKs or crash reporters are bundled; nothing is present that could ship data elsewhere.
- Internal access control — because no data reaches a server of ours, there is no employee or system in a position to read it.
Children
YuSub is not directed at children under 13, or under the higher age that applies where you live, and does not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. If what the app handles changes materially, you will be told inside the app.
